Club lost 2-1 to Eupen on the second day of play. Our coach saw that Club experienced a difficult afternoon Am Kehrweg.
Carl Hoefkens: "Looking for foundation to win first games"
"It was a very difficult game," the coach began. "We get behind after just one minute and then we give a little reaction and you are able to score the equalizer. At that point we assume improvement, but unfortunately it doesn't come. The aggressiveness in both ball possession and ball loss was not good enough today. We are currently looking for a base on which to win the first games. Against Genk last week we won partly on the basis of mentality and showing quality at the right moments and that was also the case against Gent. Today that basis was not present, but I absolutely do not want to use that as an excuse."
Nor is there any need to panic already. "Worried is a traffic word, but I do know that those are working points we need to focus on in the coming weeks. But that's not the only thing, either. There are a lot of things that we need to get better at and work on. I already see that at times, but not enough."
Stanley Nsoki had a difficult match, but the coach takes him under caution. "Everyone absolutely has the right to make mistakes, including Stanley. Of course, as a coach, I do want people to learn from the mistakes they make. But the most important thing I think is that the players can put those mistakes behind them. That's why in the next few days we will also see how the players react to those mistakes. What I want to see now is above all the drive to get better every day."
In addition, Carl Hoefkens also had a word to say for the performance of Casper Nielsen. "I was satisfied with Casper. It's perfectly normal that he doesn't feel 100 percent at home in the team yet, in terms of soccer. Casper (Nielsen) is very eager to learn and has a huge drive to make Club better. I have seen that at times today. That is what I want to see, and I am convinced that the quality of Casper as well as the whole squad will go up in the coming weeks."
"The positive for me was mainly the reaction after the game. The way the group realized that it was absolutely not good. That is, they realize what was not good and so we can all take steps together in that," coach Hoefkens concluded.
