City and PSG drop points, Leipzig wins

It was a weekend of mixed results for our European opponents with a win (Leipzig), a draw (Manchester City) and a first defeat for Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool - Manchester City: 2-2

In an intense and action-packed top game at Anfield, Manchester City took one point home, after equalising twice. Manchester City were the better side in the first half, but it was Liverpool that broke the deadlock after an hour play when Salah found Mané. Foden equalised for The Citizens, but Salah gave the home side the lead again with an absolute beauty. City clawed themselves back into the game and earned themselves a point when De Bruyne slotted home past Alisson Becker. Thanks to this draw Manchester City hold the third place in the Premier League, trailing Chelsea by two points. (EV)

Stade Rennes - Paris Saint-Germain: 2-0

After PSG's Champions League win against Manchester City, the star-studded French side payed Stade Rennes a visit. Despite all the top players in the starting eleven, Les Parisiens, suffered their first league defeat. An enthusiastic home side started the game lively, putting a lot of pressure on the visitors. Rennes carved out a flurry of chances. Laborde crashed the biggest one against the post. Half an hour into the game Neymar sent PSG's biggest chance wide. With half-time approaching, PSG took control of the game with chances for Messi and Mbappé, but it was Rennes that scored the opening goal. Sulemana picked out Laborde at the far post and he smashed it home with a volley.

A goal just before the break and Rennes doubled their lead just after the break. Tait was given too much time and space and curled it past Donnarumma. Twenty minutes before the end Mbappé saw a goal chalked off for offside by the VAR. Despite the visitors' pressure, PSG failed to create real clear-cut chances to get something out of the match. It's a first defeat for Paris Saint-Germain, who are still comfortably in the lead. (KV)

RB Leipzig – VFL Bochum 3-0

RB Leipzig beat VfL Bochum 3-0 on Saturday. It was only in the last quarter of the match that Leipzig could break down the Bochum's defence via Silva and Nkunku (2). Leipzig started the match lively and created the first chances with a header by Gvardiol. A minute later referee Hartmann awarded the hosts a penalty for a foul on Poulsen, but the VAR overturned the decission. Shortly after Forsberg slammed the ball against the bar and Bochum goalkeeper Riemann thwarted Nkunku who was sent alone on goal. Bochum stood firm but could barely be dangerous.

When the second half didn't result in more chances, Coach Jesse March brought Silva and Szoboszlai between the lines and that had an immediate impact.
