Club Brugge recorded a hard-fought 4-2 victory against Charleroi on their own field. Blauw-Zwart went behind twice, but equalized before the break thanks to Thiago and Mechele. It took until a few minutes before time for Nusa Club to take the lead. Jutglà provided the final decision in the closing seconds.
Ronny Deila made three changes to the team that went down two weeks ago against AA Gent. The injured Buchanan was replaced at right back by Kyriani Sabbe, while Jorne Spileers also returned to the starting lineup at the expense of Boyata. Up front, Andreas Skov Olsen returned to the team, leaving Antonio Nusa to settle for a place on the bench after his successful debut with the Norwegian national team. Charleroi had scored only four goals in six league matches, but immediately went in search of a goal. Shots by Zorgane and Guiagon initially went wide, but after five minutes it was a goal: Parfait Guiagon curled the ball perfectly into the far corner.
Club had woken up immediately and grabbed the Zebras by the neck. A header by Zinckernagel went over goal, Koffi had a fine reflex on a deflected shot by Vetlesen and after a scrimmage in front of goal, a shot by Zinckernagel was blocked. The Bruges players completely outplayed the visitors, but no goal was scored. Moments later, a header by Thiago went wide, while Onyedika also failed to frame his attempt. At the other end, an attempt by Zorgane bumped past. The deserved equalizer finally fell shortly before the half-hour mark. Skov Olsen served Igor Thiago and the Brazilian kicked the 1-1 across the corner.
Blauw-Zwart continued to push the gas pedal firmly in order to go up and over Charleroi before halftime. A breakaway shot by Vanaken whizzed wide and a good cross from Sabbe was cleared just in front of the onrushing Thiago. Instead of 2-1, however, it became 1-2. A shot by Vetle Dragsnes deflected off the back of Spileers and whirled over Mignolet into goal. Club did not give up and immediately went in search of the equalizer. With success: Kyriani Sabbe put the ball in front of goal and Brandon Mechele headed it in. In the final seconds of the first half, a deviated shot by Thiago flew into the side netting.
After the break, Club had a good chance in the first minute: Zinckernagel cut inside, but the Dane's shot whizzed over the crossbar. Charleroi was not impressed and responded on three occasions through Oday Dabbagh. First, Mignolet saved a shot by the Palestinian with his foot and then he was able to push away two attempts by the striker from the short corner. In between, a cross from Sabbe was headed away just in front of Thiago, while Koffi saved on a header from Zinckernagel.
Time was running out, so Ronny Deila intervened: Nielsen and Nusa replaced Vetlesen and Zinckernagel. However, it was the Zebras who were able to threaten again: Mignolet had to save on a shot by ex-Bruggeling Badji. At the other end, a hard shot by Skov Olsen flew straight at Koffi. Ten minutes before time, Boyata and Jutglà also came into the team and Deila switched to a 3-5-2 with Jutglà next to Thiago in the striker and with De Cuyper and Nusa on the flanks. However, a header by Thiago and a low blast by De Cuyper that went inches wide yielded no success.
It finally took until three minutes before time for the Jan Breydel Stadium to explode. Nusa tried to reach Thiago or Jutglà, but the Norwegian's cross shot flew straight in. Immediately afterwards, Thiago was able to go through alone, but the Brazilian saw his marker saved by Koffi. That miss was almost punished, but Mechele was able to wipe a shot by Heymans off the goal line. Deep into injury time, Ferran Jutglà finally provided the final redemption: the Catalan was able to outmaneuver his defender and lashed in with a hard left.
