It's the 159th confrontation between both teams in the Belgian first division and the 80th at home. Club won 49 of the previous 79 home fixtures (last time 3-1 on 18/08/2012). Eight games resulted in a draw (last time 1-1 on 18/05/2003), 22 ended in defeat (last time 0-1 on 23/08/2020).

Last season Club lost against Beerschot for the first time in six matches. On matchday 3 Holzhauser won it for the visitors. Club took revenge in the return game by beating Beerschot 0-3 with goals by Dost, Kossounou and Lang. Club has not been able to win its last three home matches in the Jupiler Pro League. If Club can't beat Beerschot, it'll be a first since January-April 2021 (then six home matches in a row without a win).

No other team in the Jupiler Pro League has has more shots on target than Club Brugge (31). That's 17 more than Beerschot (14) after four league fixtures. Club conceded the least shots on target (10) of all Jupiler Pro League teams. For the second year in a row Club and Beerschot faced each other for a friendly. Ryan Sanusi broke the deadlock for Beerschot, David Okereke equalised in the closing minutes.

Noa Lang (5 goals, 4 assists) and Charles De ketelaere (4 goals, 4 assists) were not involved in just four of the last twenty-one goals. De Ketelaere and Ruud Vormer are Club's top stikers with two goals, Noa Lang has given the most assists (3).

This Friday Club Brugge landed midfielder Owen Otasowie (20). He's the fourth American with the blue and black after Ian Anthony Feuer, Jared Jeffrey and Ethan Horvath. Otasowie is Club's third summer signing following the transfers of Stanley Nsoki and Tibo Persyn.

Coach Philippe Clement can't make use of wing back Eduard Sobol who was sent off in the match against Zulte Waregem with two yellow cards.

The opponent

Beerschot didn't have a great season start. With just one point after four games they are bottom of the league. Beerschot started with a 0-1 defeat against Cercle Brugge, picked up a point against AA Gent (2-2) and lost their two home matches against Union (0-3) and Standard (0-1).

This summer coach Peter Maes (57) left STVV for Beerschot, where he ended his active playing career in 2001. After five seasons at Verbroedering Geel he joined KV Mechelen, but he achieved his greatest successes at Sporting Lokeren. He has been at the helm of the three biggest clubs in the Limburg region: KRC Genk, Lommel SK and STVV.

This summer Beerschot parted ways with Loris Brogno (Zira FC), Yan Vorogovskiy (Kariat Almary), Denis Prychyenko (KMSK Deinze) and Zakaria Bakkali (back to RSC Anderlecht).

They signed the following players:

  • Defenders: Thibault De Smet [on loan from Stade Reims), Dario Van Den Buijs (back from a loan spell at Fortuna Sittard), Aposolos Konstantopoulos (Panetolikos), Femi Seriki (on loan from Sheffield Utd)
  • Midfielders: Abraham Okyere (Inter Allies)
  • Attackers: Lawrence Shankland (Dundee Utd), Leon Krekovic (US Orléans), Issa Soumaré (US Orléans)

Beerschot scored this season with only 4,7% of the shots, the lowest percentage of all first division teams. They only scored two goals, which is the lowest so far this season. Marius Noubissi and Abdoulie Sanyang found the back of the net so far. Ismaila Coulibay and Raphael Holzhauser have given one assist each. In three of the four matches Beerschot failed to score once and they haven't been able to keep a clean sheet.

Milestone

Mats Rits can play his 100th league match for Club Brugge, Clinton Mata can play his 200th in the Belgian first division. He played 82 games for Charleroi, 25 for KRC Genk and he can play his 93rd for the blue and black on Sunday.

Daniel Pérez can play his 10th league match for Club, Federico Ricca his 25th. Brandon Mechele can play his 230th match in the Belgian first division (211 for Club, 18 for STVV).

Man in black

Lothar D’Hondt has been appointed referee for this match. He will be assisted by linesmen Romain Devillers and Philippe Vandecauter. Bram Van Driessche is the fourth official, Nicolas Laforge is the video assistant referee.

The 27-year-old will whistle his 8th official Club Brugge match and his 13th for Beerschot. Club's previous 2 home matches with D'Hondt resulted in two wins. D'Hondt was the ref in six away matches of Beerschot, which resulted in 1 win, 3 draws and 2 defeats. D'Hondt was once the referee in a match between Club and Beerschot, when Club beat the hosts 0-3 last season.
