The Opponent

Last season, AZ had a successful European campaign, reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League. They also performed well in their domestic league and finished fourth.
With AZ, some familiar faces are returning to Jan Breydel. Mathew Ryan is now guarding the opponent's goal, and Jordy Clasie is also coming to Bruges. The midfielder played at Club on loan from Southampton during the '17-'18 season.
Both AZ and Blauw-Zwart (Club Brugge) have had a solid pre-season campaign. The Dutch team has played four friendly matches, winning twice and drawing twice. In their most recent friendly on July 19, the team coached by Pascal Jansen drew 1-1 against Norwich City.
