The Club Brugge Legends put in a handsome international performance at the MFE Walking Football Tournament in Mallorca last week. On the Spanish island, the Blauw-Zwart walking footballers crowned themselves winners of the 65+ category.
From May 14 to 18, the team headed to Santa Ponça, where walking football teams from different countries came together for just days of soccer, meeting and fun. On the outdoor fields of the Santa Ponça Complex, the Legends competed against international opponents and showed the best of themselves.
International victory
Our Blue-Black Legends competed in the category for men over 65 years old. During the tournament, they worked several matches according to the official KNVB rules for walking soccer: six against six, without a goalkeeper and on small goals.
After a strong run, the Legends advanced to the finals, where they took on Spain's Playa Flamenca Walking Wanderers. There, after penalties, they won the tournament.
More than just soccer
The tournament was about more than just performance on the field. Because the matches were spread over several days, there was also time to hang out together as a team and explore Mallorca. That combination made the experience extra special for our walking soccer players. In addition, the team proved that age does not have to be a barrier to (continue to) play active sports. With their weekly training sessions they stay in motion and continue to build a strong group atmosphere.
Club Brugge Foundation congratulates all players with this great achievement. We are proud of the way they have represented our colors and are already looking forward to their next sportive challenges!
