On the 25th match day, Club Brugge faced Kortrijk. In a game full of chances and dominance for Blauw-Zwart, it was only in the second half that Club was able to take the win. After a goal by Bas Dost, Club went home with a 0-1 victory.
It was Kortrijk who immediately tried to put Club Brugge under pressure at the start of the game. After a solid start, Blauw-Zwart managed to take control of the game fairly quickly. The first big chance was one for the national champion. After some beautiful combination soccer, Bas Dost just failed to score from close range. Club immediately stepped up the pace, but Vormer also failed to beat goalkeeper Ilic with a header.
On the quarter hour mark, Club had another great opportunity. A cross from the left by Hans Vanaken could reach Rits, the midfielder did not hesitate but his bouncing volley was not threatening enough. Schreuder's troops constantly monopolized the ball, and this time it was Sobol who was allowed to test Ilic after a good combination. However, the Ukrainian decided on the Kortrijk number 1.
Midway through the first half, goalkeeper Mignolet was shaken up once more when Faïz Selemani attempted a shot from the center line. The attempt stranded on the post. Afterwards, Club took control again. Successively Vanaken and Hendry did not manage to put their foot against the leather after a carom in front of goal. Around the half-hour mark, Club then seemed to grab the well-earned lead after a hard shot by Vormer. Beforehand, however, Dost was a foot offside, leaving the 0-0 on the board.
Five minutes later, it was Vanaken who just failed to score with an overhand header. However, plenty of ball possession and some great chances did not provide a lead at halftime.
After halftime, more of the same. A dominating Club Brugge did not let Kortrijk play soccer and pretty soon the result was there. First, Nsoki intervened after a breakthrough by Mbayo, on the other side De Ketelaere saw Bas Dost standing free. The Dutchman got the ball at his feet and did not miss.
In the following period Blauw-Zwart increased their ball possession. However, a lot of control and possession did not result in any significant chances. In the final quarter of the game the regional game becomes more and more intense. A combative Balanta has to abandon the game in the final quarter, and Sobol gets a yellow cardboard after a foul on Mbayo.
The most industrious of the pack, Charles De Ketelaere, manages to create some excitement in the last ten minutes of the game with some fluky actions. However, no more goals are scored, giving Club Brugge a win over KV Kortrijk by the narrowest of margins to regain sole possession of second place.
