Club - Copenhagen: the club facts

After five hard days of training, Club will conclude its summer training in Wageningen on Saturday afternoon with a match against Danish champions FC Copenhagen. The match will again last twice 60 minutes and can be followed on our well-known YouTube and Facebook channel!

Last Saturday, Blauw-Zwart received relegated Beerschot at the Belfius Basecamp. In a match that would last twice 60 minutes, coach Hoefkens brought a more experienced squad to the kickoff this time. In addition to old acquaintances Clinton Mata, Ruud Vormer and Stanley Nsoki, newcomers Ferran Jutglà and Bjorn Meijer started the match.

After 10 minutes Club had to continue with one man less after a red card for Stanley Nsoki. Despite the numerical minority, Club was able to open the scoring after 49 minutes. A corner kick by Ruud Vormer was cleverly headed in by Jutglà. After the break, a younger team came onto the pitch. The visitors were able to equalize through Jasper Goossens. Nevertheless, Club took the win when Mathis Servais curled in a free kick.

The next opponent in Club's preparation is Denmark's FC Copenhagen. In the run-up to the new season Nick Shinton made the most minutes so far (300). Top marksman Ferran Jutglà added another one against Beerschot and now sits at 3 goals. The quartet of Clinton Mata, Federico Ricca, Chemsdine Talbi and Ruud Vormer is assist king with 1 declared goal.

Club is now in the second phase of preparation. In the Dutch town of Wageningen, it is on a training camp. The 10 internationals (Buchanan, De Ketelaere, Hendry, Lang, Mechele, Mignolet, Odoi, Skov Olsen, Sobol and Vanaken) have also joined the team. Third summer acquisition Cyle Larin is also part of the Gelderland selection. The Canadian striker transferred this week from Turkish Besiktas JK for free.

It will be a special match for Andreas Skov Olsen against his compatriots. Our flank player broke through in Denmark at FC Nordsjælland. With Claudemir (Bra), Tom Høgli (Nor) and Elrio van Heerden (Rsa), there are 3 players who played for both FCK and FCB.

FC Copenhagen celebrated its 30th anniversary on July 1 of this year. The club was founded in 1992 after a merger of 2 local clubs Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and Boldklubben 1903. The club already celebrated 14 Danish championships (last time 2022) and 8 cups (last time 2017). Last season Byens hold (the city's team) celebrated its 14th national title. After the regular competition of 22 playing days the club was in the lead with 6 points ahead of FC Midtjylland, in the playoffs with 6 teams Midtjylland could approach to 3 points, but in the decisive duels between FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland FCK was the better one. It was the first title in 3 years after Brøndby and Midtjylland could celebrate in the 2 previous seasons.
