Club draws 1-1 with Cercle

Club Brugge and Cercle shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw in the derby. The blue and black had the three points in their hands for a long time after Ruud Vormer's first goal of the season, but Rubio Waldo equalised in stoppage time.

Philippe Clement sent two new players on the pitch compared to last week's team that had won at Union. Match winner Eduard Sobol was rewarded with a spot in the starting eleven and so was Matej Mitrovic. Ricca and Dost were on the bench. Club started the match in a 3-5-2 formation, with Stanley Nsoki in the three-man defence together with Mitovic and Mechelen. Up front Lang teamed up with De Ketelaere.

Club started the game with almost a clear chance in the opening minute, but Vormer's through pass just evaded Lang. That lively start was in stark contrast to the next half an hour. There wasn't really anything to see apart from a long-distance strike from Vormer and a good free-kick by De Ketelaere. Ten minutes before the half-time whistle Club broke the deadlock. After a brilliant attacking move Lang squared the ball to Ruud Vormer who fired it into the far corner.

Ruud Vormer's goal sparked the hosts into life. An elusive Charles De Ketelaere was brought of balance just before pulling the trigger and afterwards his cut-back to Mata didn't result in a goal. Shortly after Didillon was equal to Vormer's low cross. Deep into stoppage time Sobol found the back of the net on a searching pass by Lang, but the goal was cancelled out because of a handball of Lang prior to his pass.

After the break Club tried to double the lead, but Vormer scuffed a finish wide and a few minutes later his free-kick took a deflection before it landed on the roof of the goal. The blue and black controlled the game, yet needed to watch out for possible outbreaks. But Cercle didn't muster any chances apart from an effort by Vitinho.

Club was close to its sought-after two-goal cushion halfway the second half but De Ketelaere headed Vormer's cross against the underside of the bar - the ball bounced back onto the pitch. Two minutes later Balanta curled his finish one meter wide of the target. Cercle couldn't create anything, the blue and black looked like keeping the three points home.

Club wanted to kill the game, even in the closing minutes of the match. First Sobol's low cross just evaded Dost in front of goal and in the 90th minute Club had a double chance to put the game to bed: first Didillon kept out Dost's shot and he then parried away Vanaken's rebound. Instead of winning the match 2-0, Cercle equalised in stoppage time. The subbed on Rubio Waldo cut inside from the left-hand side and curled the ball against the inside of the far post: 1-1.
