THE MATCH
The practice match against Excelsior Rotterdam is the third and final practice match of this World Cup break. Previously Blauw-Zwart won convincingly against Westkapelle (8-0) and lost with the smallest difference in and against Lille OSC (1-0). KV Kortrijk also practiced against Excelsior. The Rotterdammers lost with the smallest difference against the Guys (1-0). The Rotterdam club is in fifteenth place after fourteen match days, after major defeats against top clubs Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord, but also a fine victory against AZ Alkmaar.
With the Netherlands' elimination against Argentina in the quarterfinals, Club no longer counts players at the World Cup. Noa Lang was Club Brugge's last representative. For the seven other Club players, the World Cup adventure ended in the group stage.
At Excelsior no World Cup guests, where two Belgians are active: defender Siebe Horemans (ex-Kaa Gent and ex-OHL) and striker Jacky Donkor (former youth player of KAA Gent, RSC Anderlecht and KSC Lokeren). The Zuid-Hollanders' top shooters are attackers Reda Kharchouch and Lazaros Lamrou with four goals each. Marouan Azarkan signed for the most assists with five.
Carl Hoefkens welcomed nine new faces compared to the practice match against Lille. Goalkeeper De Baille, Meijer, De Smet, Verbauwhede, Nusa, Yaremchuk and Wameso are the newcomers to the selection. Among others, Onyedika and Mbamba are not there.
With Jordy Clasie, Peter Houtman, Jordan Botaka, Dylan Seys and Jan Sörensen, there are quite a few players who were active for both clubs.
