Club goes down 1-0 at KV Kortrijk

Club Brugge was unable to follow up on last week's victory against Standard. Blauw-Zwart went down 1-0 at KV Kortrijk, suffering its seventh defeat of the season. Kadri scored the only goal of the game on the half hour. Club had some excellent chances through Rits, Buchanan, Vanaken and Yaremchuk, among others, but failed to score.

Compared to last week's game against Standard, Bruges' starting line-up underwent one change: the injured Mata was replaced by Denis Odoi. Rik De Mil retained the confidence of eighteen-year-old Jorne Spileers at the back. Club started very eagerly and immediately grabbed Kortrijk by the throat. Jutglà was unable to head in a deviated shot by Buchanan. Immediately afterwards, Lang served Mats Rits after a good interception, but the brand new dad couldn't frame his shot.

The home side was not impressed and responded with some timid attempts by Avenatti. Mignolet was able to defuse his shots twice, while a deflected shot from the Uruguayan went wide. On the opposite side, Lang Meijer crossed deep, but goalkeeper Vandenberghe was just a bit earlier on the ball than the birthday Dutchman. Moments later, it seemed to work, when Jutglà was able to cash in on a lay-back from Odoi, but the goal was disallowed because of a pulling error by Odoi on Loncar.

Instead of 0-1, however, it became 1-0. A shot by Kadri was first blocked, but moments later the Algerian succeeded when he kicked the ball into the far corner. The Bridge players tried to respond immediately: Buchanan cleverly took a pass from Lang in one time, but the Canadian's shot was saved by Vandenberghe. A few minutes later, a volley by Odoi was blocked. Another excellent chance for the equalizer followed on the stroke of half-time: Meijer laid the leather well back to Vanaken, but the ball bumped up on the poor pitch, causing the Bruges captain to hit the leather badly and shoot just wide.

After the break, Blauw-Zwart immediately went in search of the equalizer, but it was difficult to combine on the heavy and soggy turf. Jutglà was unable to capitalize on a cross from Buchanan, while moments later Silva was just able to keep out the Spaniard. Shortly after, another Buchanan cross was just cleared by Watanabe.

Shortly after the hour Roman Yaremchuk was substituted and the Ukrainian immediately had a great opportunity. Lang cleverly drove the ball in front of goal with the outside of his foot, but Yaremchuk diverted it wide. Twenty minutes before time, De Mil also brought in Raphaël Onyedika and Chemsdine Talbi. For the seventeen-year-old flank attacker, it was his debut for Blauw-Zwart. He observed how Rits cleverly cut inside, but saw his shot go over goal via a Kortrijk winger.

In the closing stages, Romeo Vermant also made his debut, but Sven's son was unable to make his mark. Kortrijk threatened, but Mignolet saved De Neve and Messaoudi. In injury time, Odoi headed in a free kick from Lang, but the goal was disallowed because of an error by the defender. A header by Sylla also went wide, leaving the 1-0 on the board.
