Club loses 3-0 at KV Oostende

Club Brugge lost 3-0 at KV Oostende. Blauw-Zwart fell behind on the stroke of halftime after a goal by Ambrose and was unlucky in finishing after the break. McGeehan and in the closing seconds Atanga did score, forcing Blauw-Zwart to empty the chalice to the bottom.

Club had tanked confidence against AA Gent on Sunday, so there was no reason for Scott Parker to make many changes. With the exception of Abakar Sylla - in place of the injured Jack Hendry - Blauw-Zwart appeared at the kick-off with the same team. Yet it was KV Oostende that got off to the best start. An Ambrose ball went a meter wide and then McGeehan twice failed to frame his attempt.

It took about ten minutes for the Bruges engine to get going. However, a cross from Sowah was cleared just in front of Jutglà. Moments later an even bigger chance followed: Buchanan served Lang, who again crossed the ball deep to Buchanan, but the Canadian tapped it just wide. At the other end, Arase's header went wide, while Buchanan's sharp cross just failed to reach a teammate.

After half an hour, Jutglà just couldn't reach a cross back from Meijer. In the ensuing action, a cross from Nielsen was headed back to Buchanan by Jutglà, but his deflected shot was saved by Hubert. Instead of 0-1, however, it became 1-0 on the stroke of halftime. Mechele was surprised by an action by Ambrose and touched the leather with his arm. Wesli De Cremer pointed to the spot, although VAR first had to check if there was no prior offside by Sakamoto. That turned out not to be the case by a millimeter, and so KVO was awarded a penalty. Simon Mignolet parried Thierry Ambrose's eleven-meter, but was then defenseless on the rebound.

After the break, Onyedika and Nusa replaced Mata and Sowah. Bruges immediately shifted up a gear and quickly tried to score the equalizer. A long-distance shot by Jutglà was saved by Hubert, while a Buchanan deflection went wide. Moments later, Mechele was unable to reach a free kick from Lang and the Dutchman kicked the rebound wide.

The equalizer was in the air, but against the run of play it was 2-0. Cameron McGeehan kicked the leather from distance past Mignolet, who slipped slightly when setting off and as a result was too late. Scott Parker then threw Yaremchuk into the fray as well, but it didn't do much good. Club did push forward with all its might, but with the exception of a shot by Meijer, there was little concrete goal threat. Meanwhile, KVO lurked on the counter and came close to a third goal through Ambrose.

Ten minutes before time, it seemed to work out when Vanaken cleverly kicked in a cross from Meijer, but the goal was disallowed because the Dutchman was a toe length offside. Moments later, a deflected shot by Vanaken went wide. However, Club had to empty the chalice to the bottom: the substitute David Atanga went on alone and ruthlessly shot the 3-0.
