Club obliterates Zulte Waregem (0-6)

Scoring 6, Club Brugge steamrolled over Zulte Waregem at the Gaverbeek. Blauw-Zwart took an early lead as Deschacht tapped one home in his own goal, and decided the game later on through goals courtesy of Krmenčík (2) and Vanaken. After the break, De Ketelaere and Balanta made it a painful 0-6 for the hosts.

Four personell changes in Philippe Clement's outfit beating Waasland-Beveren last week. Federico Ricca came on for Eduard Sobol on the left, with Krépin Diatta manning right wing at the expense of the injured Emmanuel Dennis. Up front we saw Charles De Ketelaere in support of lone forward Michael Krmenčík, the two coming on for Badji and Okereke. The latter is out quarantined, just like Brandon Mechele.

How different it all could have been, had Zulte Waregem scored through that very fine opening minute opportunity for Bruno, eye-to-eye with Mignolet, who had a great reflex in store to deny the hosts. A serious wake-up call for Club, who now took matters in hand firmly. Contrarty to Essevee, Club managed to score from its first attempt: a corner kick by Vormer got deviated towards Olivier Deschacht, whose unfortunate touch to the ball made it end up in the back of the nets. The visitors kept pushing forward: a Vormer cross was headed away towards Diatta, but the Senegalese totally misframed his shot. Not to worry, however, as twenty minutes into the game, Club doubled its lead: with a mere three touches, Michael Krmenčík received the ball, cut away from Pletinckx, and fired it in with an immense strike: 0-2.

A rampant Blauw-Zwart kept rolling in. Mata saw De Ketelaere by the first post, but his little flick went wide. Just past the half hour mark, however, the score was already at 0-3: Diatta neatly found Vormer whose great cross was headed in by Hans Vanaken. It was not over and done just yet, as Bansen was called into action to deny Diatta's shot. On the other side of the pitch, things heated up when Mignolet could not get hold of a cross, seeing the ball end up with Srarfi, whose attempt was cleared off the goal line by Kossounou. A rare thrill for the home fans, as it was Club that just kept going. Another attack later, the ball ended up with Vormer on the edge of the penalty area, who tried lobbing Bansen out of his goal, but tthe ball ended up against the crossbar. Fortunately Krmenčík followed up well to head in the rebound. With the break now in clear view, two more chances for Club through De Ketelaere and later Rits went missing.

A more sturdy Essevee manned the pitch in the second half. A hefty tackle on Ricca could have seen more than just the referee's whistle. The culprit, Bruno, produced some danger later on, but Mignolet got both hands to his shot. A bit later, Club's goalie was also alert as he cleared former Club player De Bock's cross. The visitors weren't exactly impressed by these flare-ups, and kept on creating chances. Diatta teed up Krmenčík two more times: the Czech's shot was first saved by Bansen, and a bit later, the forward aimed his attempt over.

Halfway through the second half, Club added another to its tally. A bad clearance by Bansen was intercepted by Vanaken, who kept his vista to pick out Charles De Ketelaere by the far post: 0-5. Plenty of goals for the fans within the stadium, albeit on the wrong side of the pitch. A corner kick by Schrijvers landed in the feet of Balanta, eagerly tapping in Club's sixth of the day.

One more threat resulted for the hosts, seeing Bruno go past Mignolet, but aiming the ball in the side netting. The dying moments of the game saw no more tribulation, leaving the 0-6 on the score board. The win takes Club in shared second place, where they join Beerschot and Anderlecht.
