Club share the spoils with STVV following a 2-2 draw
Club Brugge had to settle for a point away against Sint-Truiden. Vanaken and Schrijvers canceled out Kamada's opening goal, but an unfortunate own goal by Rits shared the spoils.
Ivan Leko was forced to make some changes to the team that had drawn 1-1 with Monaco on Wednesday. Stefano Denswil had to forfait the game and was replaced by Saulo Decarli. With Danjuma already out injured, now Dennis was sidelined as well and replaced by Krépin Diatta on the left-hand side. On the other side of the pitch Clinton Mata played instead of Vlietinck. In front Wesley Moraes teamed up with Siebe Schrijvers instead of Rezaei.
It took about ten minutes before the blue and black tested STVV goalie Steppe for the first time. The goalkeeper cleared Vanaken's free kick before Decarli could head in. Moments later the Swiss defender saw an effort blocked and Steppe parried away Schrijvers' shot. But the visitors hit Club hard on the counter-attack. Boli feeded Kamada who hit the outside of the post and a few minutes later Kamada's shot was too hot for Letica and the ball slowly bobbled over the goalline.
Club suffered a mental blow and needed some time to recover and get back into the game. Club got right back into it when a back pass to Steppe fell short and was pounced upon by Wesley, who was brought down by the goalkeeper inside the area. In the process Hans Vanaken was given the ball, but he fired over the target and then referee Lardot pointed to the spot after consultation with the VAR. Vanaken struck home and leveled on the half-hour mark.
The equaliser was a huge confidence boost for Club who started to play a lot better. Siebe Schrijvers struck the underside of the bar but gave Club the lead in the closing minutes of the first half when he headed in Vanaken's cross.
Sint-Truiden came out lively of the dressing rooms, immediately looking for the equaliser. Kamada whipped in a cross that was barely missed by Teixeira and a few minutes later the Japanese saw his goal cancelled for offside. The hosts had most of the ball and started putting more and more pressure on Club's defence. Boli was close twice to net the equaliser. He struck the ball over the bar before heading it centimeters wide.
Club Brugge were struggling but could have decided the match twenty minutes into the second half. Vanaken played the ball to Schrijvers, but his effort was saved by Steppe. Leko wanted to strenghten his team with a double substitution: Nakamba and Diatta came on for Rits and Cools. Club were starting to get more grip on the game, nevertheless it was STVV who were the more dangerous side. Letica was forced into making a save on Kamada's shot and Ceballos fired wide.
Club looked like holding the lead, but conceded an unfortunate own goal ten minutes before the end. Poulain tried to clear the ball but hit Rits and the ball rolled against the back of the net. Club Brugge tried to take all three points home in the remaining minutes. Vormer's free-kick clipped the top of the bar and efforts by Cools and substitute Rezaei didn't hit the target.
