Club shares the spoils with Standard following 2-2 draw

Club Brugge gave up a 2-0 lead against Standard. Dost and De Ketelaere fired in for the blue and black, but Dønnum and Dussenne pulled the visitors level.

Philippe Clement was forced to tinker with his line-up due to Noa Lang's one-match suspension and Stanley Nsoki's injury. Eduard Sobol and Mats Rits were missing in the starting eleven as well. Faitout Maouassa and Éder Balanta - suspended against Manchester City - were given the nod instead. Up front Charles De Ketelaere and Ignace Van der Brempt had to whip in the crosses for Bas Dost. This week Club celebrates its 130th birthday and to mark this occassion the players wore an exclusive "The Heritage" shirt.

The blue and black took the game by the scruff of the neck, pinning the visitors on their own half. Club created the first chance, but Vormer's strike sailed just over the crossbar, and kept the pressure on Standard. This resulted in the opening goal after fifteen minutes when Van der Brempt's cross took a deflection and surprised goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart. He let the ball slip through his fingers and Bas Dost was there to put the ball against the back of the net.

Club dictated the pace of the game and kept creating chances. Hendry's looping header ended up on the roof of the net, De Ketelaere just couldn't reach Dost and Maouassa's curling free-kick ended up in the arms of Bodart. Ten minutes before half-time the blue and black doubled their lead when a free-kick was headed away, but into the path of Charles De Ketelaere who slammed it in brilliantly - no chance for Bodart.

Immediately after that goal Bodart did good to keep out Dost's effort. Instead of scoring a third, Standard pulled one back. Aron Dønnum latched onto Cimirot's through ball and went past Mignolet who had rushed out, before putting the ball into the empty net.

Standard's goal just before the half-time whistle had given them confidence. A few minutes after the restart, Mignolet unwillingly brought down Dønnum at the edge of the area and referee Lothar D'Hondt pointed to the spot after watching the images of the VAR. Noë Dussenne took his responisibility to pull les Rouches level.

It was a hard one to take for Club, that struggled with the physical approach of the visiting side, but the blue and black didn't give up. Vormer whipped in a low cross, but Dussenne cleared it just in front of the goalline. Standard tried to be dangerous on the break and carved out a great chance. Carcela found Dussenne, who's strike was deflected with a last-ditch tackle by Mata.

Philippe Clement brought on Ricca, Rits and Izquierdo but that didn't change anything. Club couldn't up the pressure on Standard and the visitors were comfortable in the back. The best chance was for Hans Vanaken, but his low free-kick was parried away by Bodart.

The score remained 2-2, which means Club trail leader Union by four points.
