A 1-1 draw between Club and Union

Club Brugge shared the spois with Union Sint-Gilles following a 1-1 draw. Lapoussin headed the visitors into the lead, but Hans Vanaken equalized before halftime. After the break, both teams had numerous chances, but the score did not change.

Due to the suspension of Denis Odoi, Clinton Mata reappeared in the team as right full-back. He was joined at the back by Hendry, Mechele and Meijer. Just like against Antwerp, Rits, Onyedika and Vanaken was the midfield trio. Up front, Roman Yaremchuk was given another chance as the center forward. The Ukrainian was flanked by Buchanan and Lang. Kamal Sowah had to make peace with a place on the bench.

Blauw-Zwart started the game lively and nearly took the lead after two minutes. Noa Lang cut inside and unleashed a great strike, but the fingertips of goalkeeper Moris deflected the ball against the post.

Club pressed high, keeping the visitors on their own half. Only Vertessen saw his way through Club's defence, but his effort was an easy catch for Mignolet. Twenty minutes into the game Vanaken played Bunchanan through, but he curled his effort into the side-netting.

Against the run of play Union broke the deadlock halfway the first half when Loïc Lapoussin headed in on a cross. Club's response was swift but Lang and Vanaken failed to score. On the other side of the pitch Mignolet had rushed out to pick up the ball before Vertessen could try to double the lead.

Shortly before half-time Club managed to score the well-deserved equalizer through Vanaken. First he was thwarted by Moris on a brilliant pass by Lang, but a few minutes later he headed in Mata's cross. And the captain almost scored a second before the half-time whistle, but his volley was kept by Moris.

Just like in the first half, Club immediately created a big chance after the break. A pass from Lang ended up in the feet of Rits, via Yaremchuk, but the midfielder sent his effort just wide. At the other end, Boniface teed up Amani, who also failed to frame his effort. The game remained well balanced after that: a cross from Mata was headed into a corner just in front of Lang, while at the other end a shot from Boniface went wide.

After twenty minutes in the second half, Parker sent Sowah and Nielsen into the fray, but it was Union that created a next chance. Nieuwkoop tried to go through on goal, but he was crowded out by Hendry and Mata. Shortly after Club was close to a second goal. On a blistering counterattacking move via Bunchanan, Lang got the ball via Sowah, but the Dutchman put the ball wide of the far post. Union reacted promptly with three attempts but Burgess' header and Teuma's shot went wide, while Boniface aimed too high.

The closing minutes were intense with chances for both sides. Meijer's cross was cleared by Burgess before Lang could slam it in and for Union Nilsson headed Lapoussin's cross half a meter wide. In the dying seconds of the game Vanaken headed a ball over the target.
