Club suffer a 2-1 defeat at Charleroi

Club Brugge suffered a second league defeat at Sporting Charleroi. Hans Vanaken fired Club in front, but Benavente and Bruno turned it around for the home side.

Ivan Leko had to make two alterations to the team that had won so convincingly last Tuesdag in the Champions League. Benoît Poulain had to be replaced by Saulo Decarli. Krépin Diatta was out injured in Monaco and already replaced after a few minutes. Thibault Vlietinck played on the left-hand side instead of the Senegalese. Arnaut Danjuma was originally selected for this match, but eventually wasn't match fit.

Leko played Wesley in front with Rits, Vormer and Vanaken behind him as infiltrating midfielders. Both teams started the match cautious but it was Club who managed to open the scoring. After an attack over the left-hand side via Vlietinck and Denswil, the ball was feeded to Hans Vanaken who fied home: 0-1.

Moments later the hosts almost conceded again but Wesley just couldn't dispossess Penneteau.

The blue and black were playing with confidence and almost doubled the lead after half an hour play. Penneteau saved Decarli's header and parried away Mata's shot. Club looked in control, but had to deal with two mental blows five minutes before half-time.

First Denswil limped off and had to be replaced by Mitrovic and a few minutes later Charleroi equalised when Gholizadeh picked out Benavente and the latter beat Horvath with a looping header into the far corner.

The hosts came out of the dressing room with lots of confidence putting a lot of pressure on Club's defence, but it took Charleroi fifteen minutes to create real danger. The Iranian Gholizadeh skied his first attempt, his second effort was saved by Horvath who tipped the ball out of the top corner.

Charleroi dominated the game and Leko intervened. Vormer was replaced by Rezaei who could try to score against his former club. But it didn't change a lot. Charleroi were the more dangerous side and Horvath had to save shots by Benavente and Osimhen.

Club tried to take the lead again but was unlucky when Rits curled his shot just wide and Rezaei hit the post after a good attacking move.

With the minutes ticking away, Charleroi looked happy with one point but five minutes before the end the hosts found their second breath. Ilaimaharitra found Horvath on his way, but when Osimhen found Massimo Bruno the American goalkeeper didn't stand a change. The subsitute slotted home into the far corner, out of reach of Horvath.

Club tried to save one point in the final minutes, but couldn't score a second goal. The blue and black thus suffer their second league defeat of the season.
