Club loses 3-0 at KV Oostende

Club left the Diaz Arena empty-handed following a 3-0 defeat against KV Oostende. The hosts broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time through Ambrose. After the break Blauw-Zwart was unlucky in the attacking third, while the home showed themselves more efficient. McGeehan doubled the lead and Atange added a third in the dying seconds.

The 2-0 victory against AA Gent on Sunday was a confidence boost for Scott Parker and his team. The Englishman had no reason to mix up his starting line-up. Apart from Abakar Sylla, instead of the injured Jack Hendry, Parker wrote down the same names on the tactical board.

Despite all that it was Oostende that started the game best with three early attempts. Ambrose placed his effort a meter wide and McGeehan's aim was off on two occassions.

It took about ten minutes for Club to get the motor running. Sowah picked out Jutglà with a cross, but it was cleared by the home defence. A few minutes later a bigger chance arose for Blauw-Zwart. Buchanan sent Lang deep and he then played a through ball to the Canadian, but Buchanan stabbed it just wide of the target. On the other side of the pitch Arase headed a cross wide.

Half an hour into the match, Meijer's cut-back just evaded Jutglà and in the following action Nielsen's cross was headed by Jutglà towards Buchanan, but his shot took a deflection before it was kept out by Hubert.

Instead of scoring, Club conceded a goal. On the stroke of half-time Ambrose tried to get past Mechele and in that action Mechele touched the ball with his hand. Wesli De Cremer pointed to the spot and VAR confirmed there wasn't anyone in an offside position in the build-up of that attack. Simon Mignolet chose right and kept out Thierry Ambrose's spot kick, but he didn't stand a change on the rebound.

Scott Parker made two changes at half-time: Onyedika and Nusa came on, Mata and Sowah stayed inside. Club immediately upped the tempo in search of the equalizer, but Jutglà's long-range shot was parried away by Hubert and Buchanan's shot sailed well wide.

Club kept pushing but Mechele just couldn't get near Lang's free-kick and the Dutchman fired the rebound wide. While Club was pushing for the equalizer, it was the home side that doubled the lead. Cameron McGeehan's drive from outside the penalty area ended up against the back of the net.

Scott Parker reacted by bringing on Yaremchuk. Blauw-Zwart tried to things around, but with the exception of a shot by Meijer, little chances were created. Meanwhile, Oostende tried to hit Club on the break and even came close to a third goal via Ambrose.

Ten minutes before the end Club finally managed to make the game interesting again when Vanaken slotted home on a cross by Meijer, but the Dutchman had just strayed offside and the goal was chalked off.

Moments later Vanaken's drive took a deflection on a defender before it went wide. To make matters worse, in the dying seconds of the match substitute David Atanga was sent through on goal and sidefooted in.
