Dévy Rigaux addressed the press this evening about the trainer change at Club:
"I can imagine that this was a surprise, but we had felt for some time that it had run out. There was no more energy, which Nicky also indicated after the match against STVV. We saw a lack of fire in the team and no consistency in terms of results in the Jupiler Pro League. Then we took the responsibility as a club to make this choice, because we owe it to ourselves as a top club to act proactively and link up with good results.
The choice of Ivan Leko is a very conscious choice that we make with great confidence. He is the personification of grinta, energy and fire. He was also very successful as a player and coach at Club Brugge and has 100% Club Brugge DNA.
Of course, we are also looking at ourselves. This is a shared responsibility, that is always the case when you have to fire a coach. On a human level, it was very difficult to convey that message after Nicky's fantastic track record.
We are convinced that there is a lot of quality in this group, but on the other hand we are also aware that there is not enough consistency in the results. That's a shared responsibility and we won't shy away from it. So we are going to make targeted transfers this winter."
