THE GAME

On Saturday, Club Brugge will conclude its training camp in the Netherlands with a friendly against Eredivisionist Go Ahead Eagles. Both clubs have never officially played against each other.

Go Ahead Eagles is an East Dutch professional club from Deventer in the province of Overijssel. The club was founded in 1902 and was one of the first popular clubs in the Netherlands. The club became national champion four times with our northern neighbors. The first time in 1917 and then three more times during the interwar period in 1922, 1930 and 1933.

The Eagles played two European campaigns. In 1965 they were allowed to enter Europe for the first time after losing a Cup final the season before. In the 1st round of the Cup Winners' Cup then, Scotland's Celtic was too strong. A second European participation followed exactly 50 years later (in 2015). In the 1st preliminary round, the club then fell against Hungarian Ferencvaros. Since 1920 the club has played its home matches in De Adelaarshorst, a stadium that seats 9909 spectators.

THE OPPONENT

The Eagles' current team also includes 2 Belgians who played for Club NXT. Midfielder Xander Blomme moved from NXT to Go Ahead in the summer of 2022. And since this summer, Thibo Baeten also joined the yellow and red troops. Finally, a third compatriot plays for the club: midfielder Philippe Rommens, a former Lierse youth player who also played for PSV in youth and then got chances with Top Oss and GAE.
