Hans Vanaken: “Feels so good”

One of the absolute stars in Club Brugge's outfit was Hans Vanaken. After just twelve minutes, he put the Belgians in front, only to coolheadedly make it 0-2 five minutes later.

“Of the four we played so far, this may have been the least game, but this time we did win. Maybe our conclusion should be that it's better to play like this than to play better and not win. The two goals came early in the game, so it's tough thinking up a better start. The opener ended up in my feet just like that, the only thing I had to do was fire it in. I would have to take a look at the footage when it comes to that penalty kick. I fired it against his body, but couldn't make out whether it hit his hip or his arm. But well, the ref pointed towards the spot, allowing me to score twice. You should never give away an early lead like that. But keep in mind that we also went through a tight spot right at the start of the game. We should be thanking our goalkeeper for some crucial saves. It feels great to be winning like this. Four goals at Monaco, not every team will be capable of doing so. It may well be a team without confidence, but it's still quite the feat.” (SF)
