Hans Vanaken: “We controlled the match”

Club Brugge had an easy evening thanks to a penalty goal and a header of Hans Vanken.

“Scoring quickly is very important in these matches. In this way, the opponent has to attack which creates more space for us. The longer we have to wait for the first goal, the more confidence the opponent gains and the more difficult it is to find openings. We controlled the match after my opening goal and Kortrijk had the ball. However, they did not do a lot with it. We scored our second goal in the middle of the first half. In the second half, we went looking for a third goal. We missed some chances but Siebe (Schrijvers, nvdr) then gave a beautiful assist and David (Okereke, nvdr) scored. Afterwards, it was just waiting for the final whistle."

By scoring twice Vanaken again played an important role. "I like being important for the team. I never made eight goals in this phase of the regular league and I hope it does not stope here of course. I will continue like this and we will then see where it ends. It is going well for the moment and I want to keep it like that."

The top game against PSG is waiting on Wednesday. "That will be a tough match because they have a lot of quality. We will discuss the tactics in the next couple of days. We have nothing to lose on Wednesday. We try to get them into troubles. They lost this weekend in the regular league so it might be that they are looking for revenge. We just have to make sure that we cannot blame ourselves at the end. All their players have enormous qualities so we have to keep an eye on their entire team.” (KN)
