The top match between Club and Antwerp looked set to end in a draw but Hans Vanaken still decided the match in the closing minutes.
“This is a very important victory", said the match winner. "We really needed this victory given our results obtained over the last couple of weeks. We gained some confidence on Thursday by beating Lugano. Of course we should be able to do even better but only the result counts for the moment and that is positive today."
And Vanaken continued: "Our organisation was on point today, as we were able to prevent Antwerp from playing their favourite game. I suspect Alderweireld and Coulibaly got the most on the ball this afternoon, often playing together with Butez. It just came down to not getting into the thick of things. This win feels good as it allows us to avert the necessary turmoil. So let this victory be a turning point."
The Limburger initially waved off that he found his way to the net again, just like in Lugano, "Of course it's always nice to score but for me the most important thing is that we win. In recent weeks I was able to score as well but if you don't win it brings little to the table. Today was fortunately different. I hope this win will allow us to build further in the coming weeks and therefore continue to achieve positive results. We are not yet where we want to be, so there is still a lot of work. We now also have to try to increase the quality of our play. What is also important is trying to keep the zero. Today we failed to do that again, despite Antwerp having few chances. We need to be sharper in both boxes and then we will be able to achieve positive results even more easily." (FDC/MV)
