Ruud Vormer: "We absolutely wanted to win"

It took Club a some time to distance themselves from a stubbornly defensive Sint-Truiden. Captain Ruud Vormer, who had been ill beforehand, was extremely happy with the narrow 1-0 victory afterwards.

"We absolutely wanted to win," responded the Club captain. "We knew that Genk had drawn at Charleroi, so there was only one option tonight, and that was to win against Sint-Truiden. It took a long time before we got to 1-0, but I think this victory was well deserved. Already in the first half, we had several excellent chances, but it didn't work out then. After the break, we were able to step it up a notch, and the visitors hardly got over the halfway line. Then it was just waiting for that liberating goal."

The deserved goal eventually came from a penalty by Hans Vanaken, after a foul on Wesley. "I must honestly admit that I didn't see the penalty incident, but the referee was very decisive and immediately pointed to the spot. After this deserved win, the gap with leaders Genk is now just six points, so we have to keep going. We just need to get another six points now, so win at Eupen and at home against Mouscron. After that, we'll see what our deficit is going into the playoffs." (FDC)
