Hans Vanaken: "Show what Club is all about on Wednesday"
An unfortunate game for Hans Vanaken against Zulte Waregem, with a number of chances to score, but unlucky in front of goal.
“Our performance was not good enough to turn this game around. We conceded an early goal through a penalty kick. We had the ball, while they were lurking on the break, and scored from their first chance. Their second break resulted in their second goal. Playing a team like Zulte, well-organised and in block, it just isn't easy.We were unable to rectify that situation. Zulte played low, and there was little space in their backs. We tried a number of times, but that final ball was not good or precise enough. That ball hitting the crossbar could have been the equaliser, and that would have changed the game. Everything just didn't go our way. That third goal goes to show, that was really an own-goal.“
The fact that so many players were missing is no excuse to Vanaken. "We miss out on a lot of players, mainly wingers and players who are capable of making the difference. But that shouldn't be an excuse for this home defeat. We have plenty of quality and should be capable of working around this situation, but it just didn't work out. The same went for the game with Belgium on Sunday. We also had our chances to get back in the game. Just take a look at that header, which I just couldn't reach well enough. It was the small things that held us back and worked in our disfavour. It's still a long way this season, we now have to work towards Wednesday and show what Club is all about." (KN)
