The topper between Club and Antwerp already seemed to end in a draw, but Hans Vanaken decided in the closing minutes that the three points stayed in Bruges.
"This is a very important win," were the match-winner's first words. "Following the result in recent weeks, this victory was much needed. We could have gained some confidence last Thursday by beating Lugano. Of course we still have to be able to improve, but at the moment it's the result that counts and today that was again positive."
And Vanaken continued : "Our organization was on point today as we were able to prevent Antwerp from playing their favorite game. I suspect Alderweireld and Coulibaly got the most on the ball this afternoon, often playing together with Butez as well. It just came down to not getting into the thick of things. This win already does us a lot of good, because this way we can avert the necessary turmoil. So let this victory be a turning point."
That he found his way to the net again, just like in Lugano, the Limburger also waved off at first. "Of course it's always nice to score, but for me the most important thing is that we win. The past few weeks I was able to score as well, but if you don't win it brings little. Today was fortunately different. I hope that through this win we can continue to build in the coming weeks and therefore continue to have positive results. We are not yet where we want to be, so there is still a lot of work, but now we also have to try to increase the quality of our play. What is also important is to try to keep the zero. Today we failed to do that again, despite the fact that Antwerp had few chances. We need to be sharper in both sixteen meters and then we will be able to achieve positive results even more easily.
