Midway through the second half, captain Hans Vanaken headed the equalizer against the nets. Club was the better in the second half against Racing Genk, but the winning goal did not come.
"A good result is different, but fair is fair. In the first half, Genk was better. Our pressing was not good enough, they played soccer a little too easily. The second half was completely for us. If you look at it that way, the 1-1 is justified. If you can push like that in the second half then it looks like you can still get that win. But over the whole match, it's a right result. I enjoyed this match. When you have two teams that want to play soccer, it gives you space. Both teams have soccer players who can play between the lines. It was a nice game with two teams that wanted to play soccer."
A crisp header by Limburger gave Blauw-Zwart the equalizer. "It's one of my qualities to get in the box. It wasn't the easiest ball to head in. Sometimes that's nice, you put your head against it and you hope that ball goes well. An important goal at that point. Too bad, by still putting that pressure and having the upper hand, that we still didn't score that second goal."
After the first half, coach Ronny Deila made adjustments. "At halftime, the coach indicated to put higher pressure, more intensity and believe in it more. That was clearly the case in the second half. When you put pressure on Genk, they also have to throw long balls and that's not their favorite game. You're constantly in their half putting pressure and playing soccer. If you can recover the ball there, then you are quickly at the goal. From that came some chances at the end with Thiago, for example, who just couldn't put the ball in. If we had played like that in the first half, we would have won." (KN)
