Hans Vanaken: “We didn't take our moments"

Jupiler Pro League

Despite several good chances in the last thirty minutes of the game, Club left the KAA Gent Arena empty-handed. A dissapointed Hans Vanaken looks back at the game.

“This was not an emphatic game, as both sides had little clear-cut chances. It's one of those games where you have to take your chances. What we did against Osasuna, did not work out today. Gent were clinical, scoring twice from two, three good chances, like their goal just after the break. That was not a good moment to concede. Looking at ourselves, we didn't create enough danger until the end where we had some chances to get at least a point."

AA Gent started the game lively. "That's what you can expect when you come here. That is always the case. If the game of the year for Gent. We struggled the first 20, 25 minutes, but then we could even things out. In the second half we were the better side after their goal, but we lacked efficiency in the final third. Despite the loss, I think we didn't miss our season start. We had hoped to go into the international break with a good result, but unfortunately that is not the case. It's a pity, but we can't forget all the positives from the past weeks. It's now up to us go keep working hard and be ready in a fortnight."

Vanaken smiled broadly towards the home fans after scoring the equalizer just before the half-time whistle. "That's part of the game. They reacted after I missed the chance two minutes earlier. I don't have a problem with their reaction towards and they probably don't have a problem with my response. That's just part of football." (EV)
