Ivan Leko: “This was almost the perfect game”
Ivan Leko saw again an excellent game of his team. Club have now nine points out of their first three fixtures in Play-Off 1.
“I am very proud", said Leko. "We were very strong from the first until the last minute against a good opponent that also won their first two fixtures. This was almost the perfect game. We wrote history in Anderlecht but that can be dangerous. Luckily, that was not the case today. We knew it would be a tough game since Standard are always dangerous. They have a good coach (Michel Preud'homme, nvdr) and good players. In my opinion they are one of the favourites to win the championship."
The Croatian coach keeps both feet on the ground despite the excellent start in Play-Off 1. "We can enjoy a little bit now but seven more games are following. The reality is that we played three excellent games but we are still one point behind Genk. We need to continue playing everything or nothing, every game again. We have no other plan. On May 19, we will see where we are. I definitely believe my team has everything which is needed to win the championship."
The Blues have many key players but Emmanuel Dennis might have been the Man of the Match. The Nigerian winger was unstoppable and scored the third Club goal. Leko had some nice words for his winger. "The difference between the Dennis we see now and the one of three months ago is his continuity. He can motivate himself more for top games but in the past he often stopped playing after one goal or assist. Today that is not the case anymore. Whether he might achieve the level of Messi or Ronaldo one day? He has a lot of talent but still has to make a lot of progress." (SF)
