Ivan Leko: "Belgian league is our top priority”
The end of a very busy period is closeby. The game at Charleroi is the seventh one for Club in only 23 days. Ivan Leko talked about the importance of this match and his feeling the past couple of weeks.
Leko about… the injuries
Poulain and Diatta are missing. “Benoît still played the second half in Monaco despite being injured. He persevered but has to recover now. Diatta might be out for quite some time. Peres is also injured but Danjuma joins the team selection again. He already trained with the group a couple of times but cannot yet play 90 minutes just like Schrijvers. It is simple for me: when someone gets injured, others have to grab their chance and prove themselves."
Leko about… the good results this week
A victory at home against KV Ostend, a draw at Genk and a 0-4 victory at Monaco, is the bad period over? “I don’t think about it like that. The results were not that good but we knew the causes. A lot of Belgian teams had difficulties because of the international matches and the European duels. The regular league should be the top priority for Club Brugge. Therefore, we focus on Saturday now.”
Leko about… Charleroi
The Blues won both matches against Charleroi last season but Ivan Leko is not expecting an easy match. “Winning there would be awesome but games at Mambourg are always tough. It is already our seventh match in 23 days but that might not be an excuse. A top team needs to be able to play two matches per week.” Kaveh Rezaei will face his previous team on Saturday evening. For the moment, the Iranian does not yet score as fluently as at the Carolo’s. “Rezaei is a good player with an excellent mentality. He is eager to learn and always wants to improve his skills. Joining a top team is not easy but I am sure he will be valuable for us in the future.”
