The Battle of Flanders promises to be an intense struggle once again. Ivan Leko's troops are eagerly anticipating it. "I saw motivation and desire in training," the Club coach pointed out during the weekly press chat.
ABOUT KAVEH REZAEI: "TAKING THE PRESSURE OFF WESLEY"
The infirmary at Club Brugge isn't empty yet, but the situation is improving daily. Danjuma and Vossen are on the verge of their comeback. Moreover, Kaveh Rezaei is very close.
"Everyone at Club Brugge is eager to see Rezaei from his best period at RSC Charleroi in action," Ivan Leko starts off. "He has been training very intensively with the group for a week. Whether Kaveh will be there on Sunday against Gent, I will decide on Saturday afternoon after the last training session. The guy has had a lot of bad luck. He was saddled with annoying injuries. The Iranian is now rid of those. His comeback – and soon you can also include Jelle Vossen in this – should be seen as a godsend by Wesley. Both can take a lot of pressure off his shoulders."
ABOUT KAA GENT: "BRINGING SOMETHING EXTRA"
The final stretch of the regular season is upon us. 630 minutes separate Club Brugge from the 'serious' work in the Play-Offs, which Blauw-Zwart will be participating in for the ninth consecutive time.
"Let's not think about that yet," says Ivan Leko with conviction in his voice. "I know it's a cliché, but the next assignment is always the most important. On Sunday, we face Gent. We are very much looking forward to this confrontation. Traditionally, Club plays to a sold-out house. Our fans will be ready. Club always goes to the limit, but on Sunday, we want to bring something extra. The message is to go full throttle from the first minute."
ABOUT VORMER AND DENSWIL: "AILMENTS HAVE DISAPPEARED"
Thus, Ivan Leko doesn't yet have the luxury problems to assemble his squad for the match against Gent. However, he can count on two important pieces. Captain Ruud Vormer and Stefano Denswil are fully ready for the game after a hesitant start at the beginning of the week.
"We were cautious with both," the Club coach clarifies. "Stefano took a nasty hit on his ankle in Oostende. Painful. Rest and good care helped the Amsterdam native recover. Ruud also had to deal with some stiffness in the hamstrings. Two days of intense treatment by our medical staff were enough to participate in the largest part of the training week. The ailments have disappeared. They are match-fit."
