Jorne Spileers: “Return game should be a formality"

UEFA Conference League

With a goal after just ten minutes, Jorne Spileers put Club on the right track to sail past Icelandic KA Akureyri.

“My very first goal for Club Brugge, a great feeling. But in all honesty: any good goalkeeper would have saved that", the young defender claimed. “At training, we had been practising these kinds of situations, and the coach indicated I should try my luck if the chance arose. It was not as if they were trying to thwart my effort, though, as there was no pressure from the visitors. But I'm even more happy to see Roman Yaremchuk score for the first time in a very long time again. He thoroughly deserves it, after all the hard work he has put in. I hope he can gain some confidence from this, and that he's now off for a run of goals.”

Spileers also had a clear view on how the game went for Club. "I don't think this was a top performance on our part, but when it's 4-0 at half time, you start taking a more relaxed stance, allowing them to score that one goal. But all in all, that return game reallly should just be a formality.” (MV)
