Lang gives Club 0-2 win at the Freethiel

Club Brugge secured a 0-2 win at the Waasland-Beveren field. Noa Lang gave Blauw-Zwart an early lead with a fantastic goal. Club was clearly in control, but the final decision only fell in injury time thanks to a second goal by Lang.

After the cup match against Olsa Brakel, Philippe Clement opted at the Freethiel for the same eleven that canned Standard last week. David Okereke thus appeared at the kickoff for the third time in a row and also provided the first danger. However, the Nigerian's shot went over goal. Moments later, Jackers had to make a save on a shot by Lang, while at the opposite end Mignolet easily caught an effort by Frey.

Blauw-Zwart went in search of an early goal and found it as early as the 12th minute thanks to a great move by Noa Lang: the Dutchman took off down the sideline, put some Waaslanders in the wind and popped the leather steely past Jackers. Immediately afterwards Lang just failed to serve Dost and Jackers parried a hard shot by Sobol. Moments later Okereke just failed to reach Dost and Lang and Jackers made a save on a shot by Vormer.

Club was clearly in control and had Waasland-Beveren completely in its grip. After half an hour, Sobol took a cleared ball on the slipper, but the Ukrainian's effort was blocked. The only thing the home team could do in return was a shot by Albanese that went wide via Mechele. At Blauw-Zwart, Lang showed off one technical highlight after another, although it did not lead to a second goal before the break.

At the start of the second half, Stefano Denswil and Tahith Chong replaced Sobol and Okereke. However, the pattern of play remained the same: Club had constant possession of the ball and patiently went in search of a second goal. Yet it was Waasland-Beveren that was able to score, but Frey's goal was disallowed because of a prior foul on Rits.

For the Brugge side, that was the signal to shift up a gear again. That resulted in some fine chances: Dost kicked at Jackers from close range and then aimed the rebound over goal, while Vanaken - after a fine deviation by Dost - kicked the cross in front of goal. Dost diverted a shot by Chong wide moments later and Jackers made two saves on shots by Chong and Lang. The 0-2 did not fall, and at the other end, a blast from Mandjeck whizzed only narrowly wide.

Twenty minutes before time, Clement threw in two fresh forces with De Ketelaere and Badji. The deserved second goal, however, was not forthcoming. Vormer hit the side netting, while Jackers saved a shot by Lang. Then Badji Chong offered a goal, but again Jackers was in the way. Deep into injury time, the Dutchman scored the 0-2 in the top corner after a sharp counter shot by Noa Lang.
