THE MATCH
The tenth friendly of the season is against French LOSC Lille Métropole. It is the second friendly during the World Cup break. Last week, Club was able to triumph with generous 0-8 figures against the neighbors of VV Westkapelle. With a hat-trick by Mathis Servais and goals by Casper Nielsen, Lennart Mertens, Shion Homma, Joel Ordóñez and Maxime Wameso, Blauw-Zwart could start the preparation for the second half of the season with a good feeling.
The match will be played behind closed doors at the training center of the northern French club. Both clubs already played each other once in July this year. The day after the Belgian Super Cup, Lille was a guest at the Belfius Basecamp. It was a goal-rich afternoon. Through David Okereke and Arne Engels, Club took a double lead. The visitors came alongside again through Edon Zhegrova and Jonathan David (2-2). In the closing stages of the match there was also a lot of venom. First Blauw-Zwart got back into the lead through Lynnt Audoor, but again the French came back through Angel Gomes (3-3). Yet Club still drew the longest end when Romeo Vermant popped in the 4-3 in the 93rd minute.
Compared to the practice match in Westkapelle, Senne Lammens, Axl De Corte, Kyriani Sabbe, Jano Willems, Noah Mbamba, Lynnt Audoor, Arne Engels, Raphael Onyedika, Cisse Sandra and Chemsdine Talbi are also in the selection for this game. After 15 playing days, the club from Lille is ranked 7th with 26 points. That is already 15 less than leader PSG.
With Timothy Weah (USA) and Jonathan David (Canada), the club has 2 players at the World Cup in Qatar. Weah will play with his country the following day for a spot in the quarterfinals against Noa Lang's Oranje. Jonathan David is LOSC's top shooter with 9 goals. French midfielder Rémy Cabella is the assist king in the Ligue 1 with 5 assists.
Lille finished only 10th in the French league last season, which means they are not playing in Europe for the first time in 4 seasons. Portuguese Paulo Fonseca has been trainer there since this summer. He previously worked for AS Roma (Ita), FC Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukr), and Portuguese clubs SC Braga and FC Porto, among others. As Shakhtar's coach, he also played a friendly against Blue-Black in 2016.
With Ludovic Butelle, Abdoulay Diaby, Michael Klukowski, David Rozehnal and Stephan Van Der Heyden, there are quite a few players who once played for both Club and LOSC
