Mats Rits: “Couple of narrow escapes for them”

Not a bad performance by Club, but not enough to get more than the 1-1 against a solid Zulte Waregem outfit. Mats Rits opened the score shortly after the break, but that wasn't enough to earn Club a better first leg result.

“Playing at Anderlecht or at home against Zulte Waregem, it's two different types of games. It was clear that they came for a draw, and they succeeded. I don't think we played that bad a game. I heard in the dressing room we were in possession for 75% of the game, so it's not as if we didn't dominate this game. In fact, we had enough chances to score more, but they had a narrow escape at times. Sometimes it's just like that, sometimes things unravel in the end, I think tonight was one of those nights.”

A fine attack ended up with Rits, slotting in Club's opener. “It's always great to score. I reckon it's a bit of a copy of our second goal against Anderlecht. Charles (De Ketelaere, edit) pulled back neatly, and I yelled to Hans (Vanaken, edit) that I was free so he could let it go towards me. Unfortunately that 1-1 followed swiftly, after Simon fumbled, but no one is mad at him about that. When a goalkeeper makes a mistake, it's a goal most of the time, and today was no different. We do realise the return in two games won't be easy, but we will definitely travel there to get to the Final.” (FDC)
