No league soccer this weekend, but an international break. Monday morning, nine players exchanged Belfius Basecamp for a short period with their national team. Time for an overview!
We start with our own compatriots, because in addition to the famous Red Devils, Blauw-Zwart also supplies a lot of youngsters to Belgium's youth teams. Cisse Sandra and Noah Mbamba are preparing for a friendly against the U19 of Portugal on Friday September 3 and one against the Czech Republic on Sunday September 5.
Tibo Persyn, Ignace Van der Brempt, Senne Lammens & Charles De Ketelaere will then play their first European Championship qualifier for Euro 2023. They start against Turkey on Friday evening at 20:00. On Monday they play another practice game against Cercle Brugge's U21.
Red Devils Brandon Mechele & Hans Vanaken meet Estonia (Thursday night 20:45), Czech Republic (Sunday night 20:45) and Belarus (20:45) in their World Cup qualifying campaign. Simon Mignolet was rested by the national coach to continue rehabilitation from his knee injury. De Ketelaere could possibly join the Devils later.
Eduard Sobol played 82 minutes yesterday in his World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. It ended 2-2. Saturday night at 20:45 Ukraine plays against France in the same group. Wednesday night they close the international break with a practice match against the Czech Republic.
