The 155th Bruges city derby at the highest level ended as it began, and Philip Zinckernagel could not really agree with that.
"Today it came down to building on what we showed last Thursday against Lugano. At least we were able to force enough chances but either we weren't compelling enough ourselves in finishing or their goalkeeper was in the right place every time." And the Danish winger continued : "Of course we are disappointed with the result, despite giving our full 100 percent. But this Cercle is not an easy opponent to beat, they are not at the top of the standings for nothing."
When asked how it could be that Club showed a totally different countenance compared to the game against Union, Zinckernagel was clear : "I realize that it sounds paradoxical when I say that sometimes it is good to have to endure such a game, as long as you know how to learn lessons from it. Against Lugano we recovered and also today we can't blame ourselves for anything and we played with a lot of spirit and abandonment but it wasn't to be today. We are in a down period but I am convinced that sooner or later the tide will turn. How? I certainly don't want to use it as an excuse but the fact that we have to play a lot of matches in a row is to our disadvantage. That way we don't get the opportunity to practice on certain things. But again, we will turn things around, that much is for sure." (MV)
