Philippe Clement: “Seized our moments”

With ten goals in two games, it's no surprise Club Brugge coach Philippe Clement was a satisfied man. Along the lines of expectation, Clement kept both feet firmly on the ground.

“The score may let you think differently, but we had a tough start to the game. Zulte Waregem put pressure from the start, but that Bruno chance did not go in, fortunately for us. The game could have gone differently entirely. They surprised us with the way they took on the game, but we managed to react immediately. To boot, a bout of luck helped us towards the opener. After that, confidence started growing, and the team managed to find the space. We seized our moments. It's not often you get to watch the last half hour of a game with a satisfied mind, but this was the case today. Whether we're off now? We have been off for some time now. Sometimes games see a lot of efficiency, in other games it just won't go in, just like in our games against Beerschot and against Charleroi. Sometimes it's just a matter of perseverance, in order to reach your goals at the end of the ride.”

After his first goal for Club against Waasland-Beveren last week, Michael Krmenčík now added two more against Zulte Waregem. “It's clear that last week's goal had a bit of a liberating effect on him, even if he always kept working so hard. I always told him his time would come. It finally arrived against Waasland-Beveren, and we're all very happy with that. We all think he deserves this thoroughly, which is why they all came to congratulate him. Michael is the type of person oozing that No Sweat, No Glory mentality, who always keeps going. At training he has already proven he's capable of scoring, but it didn't really show in the games some three to four weeks ago. He lacked confidence, and it seemed as if that goal was shrinking with every game. But now he's teeming with confidence, and he now just needs to continue along these lines. A solution to our problems up front? I never said we had a problem with our forwards. Which doesn't mean we have more than enough attacking prowess, as it's bound to be a long and demanding season. October and November will be months with games every three days. Which is why it's vital for my players to keep that rhythm and be fit for that time of the season.” (SF)
