Points dropped at Eupen

Sunday night Club Brugge headed home with only one point after a 2-2 draw at Eupen. Club managed to save one point after a horrible first half, but in the end the league leaders couldn't be satisfied.

Ivan Leko, louldy supported by the numerous fans, made three changes after the intense cup game last Thursday. Forwards Diaby and Vossen - who had picked up a slight injury - and winger Limbombe were rested. Wesley, Dennis and De Bock were given the nod.

No time to waste for the hosts who created a first big chance in the opening minute. Tirpan with a perfect low cross in front of goal, but Afif dragged his shot wide. Eupen were by far the better side in the opening minutes and deservedly opened the scoring after ten minutes when he headed a cross down and past Butelle. Club tried to respond, but couldn't put pressure on Eupen's defence. And instead of equalising, Eupen doubled their lead inside the first twenty minutes when defender Loties headed in on a corner kick. Club Brugge hanging in the ropes.

Just before the half-hour mark Nakamba had a go from distance, but he saw his finish fly wide. Ivan Leko had to do something and made his first substitution: Clasie came on for Decarli and Club switched to a 4-4-2 formation.

The change resulted in more possession, but the chances were rare. Vanaken headed towards goal, but Van Crombrugge wasn't troubled. The home side tried to bag a third one, but Ocansey's effort was off target and the video assistant referee intervened when Eupen was awarded a spot kick unfairly.

Club came out of the dressing room with fresh courage and the support of the fans who were again brilliant in their support. Wesley tested Van Crombrugge early in the second half. No goal, but it was the signal for the Blues to get in the game. Clasie en Limbombe were close, but twenty minutes before the end Club's pressure resulted in a goal. Vormer beat the offside trap and crossed to the ball to the far post where Dennis was unmarked and headed in to half the deficit.

The goal gave Club the power to keep dominating the game, but Eupen were determined to fight for their three points. Vanaken tried it from distance after a good combination, but his effort sailed over the crossbar. Eupen tried to kill the game on the break, but Ocansey blasted his effort high over the crossbar. It was end to end play in the final minutes of the match with huge chances for both sides, but eventually Club were awarded a spot kick when Dennis was brought down by Loties who raised his foot so high it hit Dennis in the face. Vormer took his responsibility and slotted home the equaliser.

With five minutes stoppage time left Club were even close to take all three points. Limbombe crossed the ball to Cools, but a defender cleared the shot off the line. In the remaining minutes play was interupted numerous times which made it difficult for the Blues to create more danger.
