Hans Vanaken: "Efficiency, that's what it came down to today"
"I think it can be summed up very simply. This was a game we dominated from the start. We were clearly the better team, we had enough chances to score ... but when it doesn't happen, you know how it ends: in the closing stages you get the lid on the nose. Efficiency, that's what it came down to today, nothing else.
A few times we almost scored from penalty distance, but the Antwerp defense was so low. Then you immediately have three men in front of you, which is their right of course, but then the ball just has to pass between or beside a leg, and that luck just wasn't there today.
Soccer is like that: the best team doesn't always win, and we proved that again today. We were good enough to win this match, but we did not succeed, and that is disappointing.
We just need to score a quick goal, and preferably a second one right away. That way we can regain some confidence, especially our attackers."
Nicky Hayen: "In the box you have to be clinical"
Club played a dominant game against Antwerp, but in the zone of truth things went wrong a few times, something that obviously did not escape coach Nicky Hayen.
"I think the right conclusion is that we played a very dominant game today, which was already a big difference from the last few weeks. But unfortunately we weren't able to convert that into goals. We had enough chances to win, but in the box you just have to be clinical. It's those little details that decide a match: that penalty you get, or that goal you still have to concede in the closing stages. Those are phases that ultimately turn out to your disadvantage.
The intention was there to often play deep and make those specific runs, especially with both Tresoldi and Vermant in the team. We pressed that again at halftime. Anyway, unfortunately it didn't result in a goal. We are in this situation together and we will have to get out of it together.
It's about small details, an accumulation of small problems that are there at the moment, but we keep working together to turn the tide. For example, with the upcoming cup game: there we have to go full out to get a positive result."
Dani van den Heuvel: "That's really galling"
As backup goalkeeper, first taking a penalty and then still losing. It happened to Dani Van den Heuvel, who had to replace Simon Mignolet at halftime.
"That's a real bummer. You start the second half with 0-0, and deep into the second half I grab that - admittedly - light penalty. Then of course you hope we can still win the match, but it turned out differently: they made the 0-1.
We tried to put extra pressure in the last ten minutes, but unfortunately we couldn't score anymore. Taking that penalty immediately gave me a lot of confidence. Only it wasn't enough today, and I really regret that.
As a second goalkeeper you always have to be ready to step in, so I felt okay when I heard I would have to step in, but of course I would have much rather won."
