Reactions after STVV - Club

Jupiler Pro League

After an intense match, 3-2 was the final score at Stayen. Find out what Hans Vanaken and coach Nicky Hayen thought about that new loss here.

Hans Vanaken: "Just didn't want to go in at the end"

A 3-2 defeat at Stayen after a strenuous game, with Club tried to pull out all the stops, but to no avail. Captain Hans Vanaken made his analysis immediately after the final whistle.
"The ball just didn't want to go in at the end, just didn't want to fall right. That is the difference between a team that is in a good flow and a team that has more difficulty scoring. Then the ball falls just short more often than not, like the ball on the crossbar by Kaye Furo. After our goal we gave away the chances ourselves by making wrong choices, like the lateral ball I gave them that resulted in the penalty. We also let them come into their game too much after the 1-1."

A penalty goal by STVV meant Club was trailing at half-time. "The second half we started with new energy, came out stronger and were able to create openings with, among others, the good substitute Carlos Forbs. Our 2-2 was deserved. They came in front of the goal just about the first time in the second half and the 3-2 fell from that cross. We tried to respond, but the ball just didn't fall right for us anymore. We create enough chances, that's not the problem. I would only be worried if we don't create anything anymore and go down 4-0, for example. The lapse after the 1-1 was a bit too big, we have to work on that so we remain more consistent throughout the match. We have to, also today, grab our moments a bit more during the game, because we had plenty of chances."

Nicky Hayen: "They grab their moments, we don't"

Club Brugge seemed to go up and over STVV in the second half, but instead of 2-3 it ended up being 3-2. "We started very well, with a good chance straight off for Tzolis. Then we also scored the 0-1 after a textbook attack. Unfortunately, we just handed them the 1-1 ourselves. After that they took the upper hand and we dropped back too much. I haven't seen the footage of the penalty, but I think it was justified. At halftime we said we had to push forward more. We did that with Carlos and we also scored a very good goal afterwards thanks to Kaye's depth. Then the 2-3 was in the air, but we didn't seize the moment and they scored the 3-2. In the closing stages we gave everything we had, including that ball on the crossbar. Unfortunately it didn't go in, because a draw would have been a fair result. Sometimes you can be in a period where things are a little less good. For Christos, for example, the finishing was a little less successful today, but of course he has given us many goals and assists. The most important thing is to keep supporting each other, even in those difficult moments. We also did a lot of good things today. And also next Wednesday we will do everything we can to create an upset."
