Lior REFAELOV

"Constant line in my performances"

With two goals and some incredible actions, Lior Refaelov showcased his excellent form. "It was important to take a good start to the PO's, and put pressure on Anderlecht and Standard. Club had a great group performance in store today, even if I hadn't expected it to be 5-1 in the end. Still, there are some working points. We need to stay focused throughouth the ninety minutes, and keep working hard, as it's still a long way to the title. We took an early lead, but pulled back a bit after that. We should work on that, play higher allowing us to play even better. After the break, Lokeren took the initiative for a bit and even scored 2-1. But after that we regained control of the game and soon made it 3-1 and 4-1, killing the game."
Refaelov's been acting on a very high level lately. "I succeeded in scoring twice today. Almost three, but Copa had a fine save in store on my third attempt. I feel great right now, and I do everything for the team. There's consistency in my performances, thanks to the confidence I get from our coach. Michel Preud'homme always says that we need to help out one another. In case there's a slump in your game, there are still co players to rely on. We also have a tactical plan to follow, and every minute and every game in these play-offs are important. It'as also great to see the hard work at training paid off in a game. I have been training with Eidur on that free kick, too bad it went just over. But well, we got the three points today, and we now have a full week to get ready for the game at Anderlecht. We are in a good position now, but we still need to take it one game at a time." (KN)

Laurens DE BOCK

“Fine start to the play-offs“

Club Brugge took a flying start with a 5-1 win over Lokeren. Laurens De Bock was also very pleased with the win against his former colleagues. “It's clear that this was a solid win, and a very promising start to the play-offs. This wasn't exactly what I had in mind, as I thought Lokeren would be a bit more forceful today. On the other hand, we owe this victory to our group, with everyone working for each other, and fighting for one another. We can always play the ball to someone. That early goal gave us wings, but we continued along that line, and went for the double lead. Furthermore, we finished our chances well, and hardly gave anything away. We were well organised, even if we played too low at the start of the second half and Lokeren managed to hurt us a bit. We now need to keep up our hard labour, and continue this run. Backed by our fans we should be able to take on any team. What a spectacular atmosphere today, it really pushes us forward. At times like these, our supporters really are our twelfth man." De Bock was also happy with his own performance. "Playing against your former team brings out the best in you, and I even almost scored. But twice Copa saved the day. Maybe I can be more successful next week.“ (MV)

Björn ENGELS

“Very happy with my first goal at Jan Breydel”

Lior Refaelov's opener was followed up with Björn Engels doubling the lead. Club's central defender thus scored his fifth this season. "This 5-1 win feels fantastic" Club's number 40 starts out. “There was some pressure as we lived towards this game, but personally I had a good feeling about it. Our goal was to put early pressure and not allow Lokeren to get into its usual game. A goal in the first ten minutes helps too. After that, our game wasn't brilliant, but we managed to keep it all under control. After 30 minutes, I doubled the lead, after Copa first got his hands to Duarte's header, which then ended up with me. And you can be sure that I was so happy with my first goal at home. After the break, Lokeren fought its way back into the game, but we scored the 3-1, killing the game. We crossed the first hurdle with a 5-1 win, but nine more hurdles await. Starting next week at Anderlecht, and we still have a bone to pick with them after our loss there earlier this year.” (FDC)

Eidur GUDJOHNSEN

“Keep working hard, and see where it takes us”

As was along the lines of rexpectation, Eidur Gudjohnsen once again had his place in the starting XI, filling in for the injured Vadis Odjidja. He thanked his coach for the vote of confidence with a tremendous performance.
“I don't think there is a better way to be starting the play-offs", Gudjohnsen smiles. “But the road ahead is still long. We made the most of our tactical plans, and we were 2-0 up after just half an hour. Still, I thought we could have done better in that first half, as there were still plenty of bad passes. Odoi's 2-1 shook us, and we managed to score a third straight after that, having Lokeren gasp for air again. We tried to find solutions to limit their wingers and tried to create more chances through quick passing on their half. That worked out very well after the 3-1, leading to a thumping 5-1 at full-time. A deserved one for sure, but that doesn't change our situation: we must keep working hard and we'll see where it takes us. As of Monday, our focus will be the game at Anderelecht; let's hope our current confidence again results in a win.” (FDC)

Michel PREUD’HOMME

“Great feeling, but we need to realise that there's still work to be done”

Michel Preud’homme's troops entered the PO's with a dramatic 5-1 win. Still, it was a level headed team manager manning the table at the press conference. "We started out well, with a chance for Eidur and shortly after Lior's goal. After that, we allowed Galitsios to infiltrate and hand Persoons the opportunity to produce some dangerous crosses. We were very efficient ourselves, however, scoring a 2-0 before half-time. During the break, I highlighted that we shouldn't allow Lokeren to put us under pressure with their position changes. Still, we didn't take that aboard well enough, and we were forced to pull back. Their goal could have caused doubt, but fortunately we reacted immediately. We were strong, even in textbook situations, usually not one of our strongsuits. We worked on that a lot, and it finally pays off. We played with confidence after the 3-1, and we scored two more. This gives us a great feeling, but we need to realise that there's still work to be done in some respects.” (SF)
