After the draw against Lokeren, we had a talk with Lior Refaelov, Claudemir, Timmy Simons, Mathew Ryan, Thomas Meunier and coach Michel Preud'homme.

Lior REFAELOV

“Hope I can stay fit now”

Club got stuck at a 1-1 draw vs Lokeren, after a sub-standard first half, when Lokeren was clearly the better team. Fortunately, the second half was much better, and Lior Refaelov's coming on was an important factor in the turnaround. "It's very fair to say that we played a very weak first half," the Israeli started out. "Our preparation to this game was good, but it didn't show in our first half performance. Not only our own play and our lack of creativity in midfield were to blame, but obviously also the way Lokeren played here and pinned us down. We are obviously disappointed as we could have added two points to our gap with Anderlecht after their draw. Having only joined the group at training on Friday, I was happy to be able to play the second half. I hope to stay fit from now on, and reach my high level soon again. The games will follow quickly, and for me personally it's good to be able to play a bit more every game. We do realise our mission in Denmark will not be a walk in the park, but we'll try everything to get to the next round.” (FDC)

CLAUDEMIR

“Lost out on two important points”

Just like against Cerlce on Wednesday, Claudemir started from kick-off against Lokeren. On the hour mark, the Brazilian produced the assist leading up to the equaliser. "We lost out on two important points today. We didn't play well at all in the first half, and allowed Lokeren to push us away. We lost nearly every duel, so it came as no surprise to see them take the lead. After the break, after the coach's advice, and the entrance of Refaelov, we were able to push them against their goal, and raise our level. It's a pity we weren't able to add another one after that deserved equaliser, I think we could have won. We're not happy to have lost two points in this 1-1 draw against Lokeren, but as of tomorrow we need to focus on our European mission against Danish Aalborg, which won't be easy. Aalborg plays a compact game, both at home and away, so we'll need to be watchful. As to me personally, I'm very happy with my assist teeing up Tom De Sutter, but like I said after the last game, I can only get better by playing more. We'll see what the future has in store in that respect.” (FDC)

Timmy SIMONS

“Four more games to grab as many points as we can”

Skipper Timmy Simons saw how Club had all the trouble in the world to get past Lokeren's organisation. "In the first half, we had a lot of trouble creating chances. Lokeren started from a great organisation. And it just didn't work out to force things. In the second half, we applied more pressure, and Refaelof showed just why he's so important to our team. We really need all the players in our selection; a busy schedule awaits, with a lot of games following each other swiftly. But that's the way I like it, that's why we have a strong selection.”
Club lost out on the chance to widen the gap with Anderlecht. “We now need to claim the three points, in every game. Four more games await, four more chances to grab as many points as we can before the start of the play-offs.” (KN)

Mathew RYAN

“Victory and defeat lie so close to one another”

Just before kick-off, the fans at Jan Breydel praised their Mathew Ryan for winning the Asian Cup with a huge banner. The Australian goalie was unable to deny Lokeren's opener, however. "That's football", the goalie indicated after the game. "Winning, losing, it's so close to one another. We need to find the reason why we didn't win today, and try and find a solution. Not being able to call upon Victor Vazquez should not serve as an excuse. He's one of the many players in our selection, and his position should be handled by whoever comes in his place. I'm not worried about the fact that he might be out for a longer time. Everything is as it was before this match day in the table. Anderlecht and Club both drew, so we keep the same gap topping the table.” (KN)

Thomas MEUNIER

“Not a fully focused Club”

Once again, Thomas Meunier gave it all he had, but he was also forced to see how Club left the pitch with just the one point. "In the first half, we were nowhere. No pressure, no solutions to Lokeren's game. Our organisation was sub-par. At Kortrijk, you could see that we really wanted the three points, but today it looked like Club just wasn't awake. It went a lot better in the second half, and we drew level through De Sutter. In that situation, we put pressure like we should, and we showed we were the home team. We played better, but still made a lot of errors. It was like we weren't fully focused, and Lokeren put up a good organisation. It's not all doom and gloom, however, as we showed what we were capable of in those first twenty minutes in the second half. The game can turn around, and it's not all about physcial readiness. At Kortrijk, we were poised, and had enough chances to win. Today was not like that, we need to find a good balance. We now need to win the remaining games before the play-offs are kicked off, and whow we have the quality to get past well-organised teams.”
On Thursday, the European away game at Aalborg follows. "Club plays in three competitions, and we will try to get as far as we can. At Aalborg, we will try to claim a good result towards qualification. We will try to go as far as we can in Europe, so we need to play a good game there. Our scouting did their job: Aalborg had a good outfit, with strenghts, but also with flaws But we'll be looking into that this week. We have played two great games on Danish soil this season, we'll be adding a third on Thursday.” (KN)

Michel PREUD’HOMME

“Unfair to claim the win”

Michel Preud’homme saw two sides of his team mirrored in the two halfs: a bad performance in the first, and a solid in the second. "Claiming the win would be unfair. Playing football for only 45 minutes, against a good team, will never earn a win. With Vazquez and Refaelov unable to start, we had to find a solution. But when two players of the same type are out at the same moment, we get into trouble. A kind of unease found its way into the team, as there was no Spielmacher. With Izquierdo behind De Sutter, we tried to manage things, and the most danger came from him in the first half. The problem was that we lacked commitment. We lost all duels, and the second ball was always for Lokeren. During the break, I gave my players a mouthful. We brought Refaelov for Izquierdo, who had to be taken off injured, and we were off to a better second half, creating a number of chances and scoring the deserved equaliser. All in all, a draw is not enough for either team.”
Club's coach saw how his man-in-form José Izquierdo fell out injured. “Some time ago we already had to make do without Victor (Vazquez, editr), and now José suffers from the same injury, a meniscus injury. Refaelov was also out for some time, but fortunately he's back. But now Izquierdo is injured; we'll have to wait and see just how long he will be unavailable. A couple of days, or maybe even a couple of weeks. He feels pain in the back of the knee, and limps a bit. We'll see in the coming days.” (SF)
