Christos Tzolis: "We deserved to score because of our superiority"
With a rakish blast, he shook the nets on Den Dreef, giving Blauw-Zwart the three points. "It was a difficult match, but it's an important win. I'm happy to do my bit with my fourth goal of the league. Old Heverlee-Leuven is a difficult opponent. Our first half was not so good, but afterwards we changed our plan and did deserve to score because of our preponderance," the match winner spoke.
In the second half, Blauw-Zwart claimed the ball possession. However, there were few chances to note as the Leuveners set up a difficult to disrupt block. "It took a long time before we found the solution. The opponent had a different gameplan with the new coach. So it was a bit of a search for us how they played. At halftime we adjusted and it showed."
"Everyone gave 100%, including the substitutes. So we helped each other to bring it to a good end." he raised the praise for his teammates.
With half an eye, the goal scorer also looked toward Wednesday's match against Bayern Munich. "I played a few seasons ago in the 2. Bundesliga and now we face Bayern Munich, still one of the better teams in Europe. We are going to enjoy ourselves, but of course we are also going to do everything we can to put in a good performance and show what we can do.
Nickey Hayen: "Positive that we still won the game over the line"
Blauw-Zwart won with the smallest difference against OHL thanks to a goal by Tzolis. Coach Nicky Hayen was obviously a satisfied man, but was also very honest in his analysis afterwards.
"We continued the line of 'ups and downs,'" the Bruges coach began. "Today was not a good game and we are also very honest about that. It's a bit of a copy paste of last year, because then it wasn't a good game either and we were very clinical. You do see when you keep the zero, even though we gave away a lot of chances, we basically always score. So the positive thing is that we got that game over the line."
Seys was kept in the locker room at halftime. "Joaquin had felt something in the hamstring and that played up towards the end of the first half. So we have to wait for the medical bulletin first."
A top match against Bayern Munich awaits Wednesday. "We are well aware that Bayern will punish all mistakes. Everyone knows that the UEFA Champions League is a different story after all, but the level must indeed seriously go up. Players can always rise above themselves in those kinds of matches, though, and that's a bit of the balance we're trying to find. We always play against an opponent who wants to prove that they are better than us and we always have to be ready for that. Mentally we were ready, but you also saw, for example, that we had to replace Jorne due to fatigue and also Romeo couldn't start because of that. So that accumulation of games also has consequences and we try to deal with that as well as we can. Then it's good that you win games like that," concludes a satisfied Nicky Hayen.
