Charleroi proved to be a tough opponent, but Club Brugge was finally able to keep the three points at home. Ronny Deila saw his team pull out all the stops to still get the victory.
"It was a difficult match for us," Deila said. "We started very badly, so that was disappointing. Then we got better and better in the match and deservedly scored the 1-1. After the equalizer, however, things fell silent again and we swallowed another counter goal. Fortunately, we were able to score again before halftime. After the break we pushed well, but they also created some chances again. Fortunately Simon Mignolet was very strong today. In the end it was the substitutes that made the difference, but chapeau to the whole team. It was important that the team didn't collapse after that deficit and that we kept doing the things we needed to do. We still had a plan B and a plan C and that ended up being the deciding factor. We had periods that were very strong, but also periods when we lost too much ball. If you put high pressure yourself, you also give away space. However, we were not organized well enough ourselves, giving away chances. On the other hand, we did manage to control most of the match."
It was finally Antonio Nusa who gave Club the lead in the closing stages. The 18-year-old has suddenly become worldwide hype since his debut for the Norwegian national team, but according to Deila, Nusa keeps his feet on the ground. "I can say many things about him. First of all, it was uncertain whether he would be in the core, because through those two matches with Norway he was very tired. In the end, he turned out to be able to play anyway and made the difference today. He is a fantastic boy who is also down-to-earth and very eager to learn. I have seen how in Norway after Haaland he is suddenly the crown prince of Norwegian soccer. But it's up to him to prove him here. If he does that step by step, great things await him." (SF)
