After the defeat against Union, Club picked up a satisfying win against FC Lugano. Blauw-Zwart was far from impressive, but were clearly the better side and deservedly kept the three points home. Coach Ronny Deila was pleased with the effort.
“It was a tough game in difficult circumstances. Because of the heavy rain, the pitch was not too great. We were clearly not overflowing with self-confidence, but I saw a lot of willpower. The players worked hard and gave nothing away in the first half, except for a header in the closing seconds. In the second half, things went better, we played more liberated and were also able to score. That goal obviously boosted our moral. This is another good experience for everyone. I am happy with this performance."
Jutglà's penalty miss ultimately kept things exciting until the closing seconds. "Hans is the number one when it comes to spot kicks and he makes the call. I don't know what exactly was discussed, but Jutglà was obviously very disappointed that he didn't score. Thiago, on the other hand, bagged a goal. I am also pleased with Ordóñez's performance. He has been waiting for his chance all season and has made a lot of strides since the summer. He did very well and played with confidence. This way he will get more minutes to show himself."
Next Sunday the city derby Cercle is on the menu. "This victory will have a positive effect anyway. After Union there was a negative perception, but on the other hand we did win four of our last five matches. The match against Union was very poor, but most of our other defeats could have gone the other way. Out of 24 matches, we lost five times, one of which was really deserved. I'm not saying we should always have won in the other defeats, but there was more to get from those matches. I'm tired of always talking about the same things. You know there is always pressure at a top club, so that is normal. Performing under pressure is not easy and that is also a new thing for some players. You shouldn't put too much pressure on yourself either, because then you can cramp up. Above all, I want the players to be themselves, have fun on the pitch and then the results will come naturally. The players want to perform for me, for the club and for everyone. The important thing now is to rebuild self-confidence. I was very happy how the fans supported us today and we will need that support on Sunday too." (SF)
