A disappointing defeat at Standard, giving coach Deila cause to lament his team's lack of efficiency.
"We had a rough start to the game because of their early goal. From a free kick, but I reckon they scored a fine goal. We had trouble defending that, but we also did not do well in that situation. We gave them energy like that, both the fans and the team. By the end of the first half, I think they were getting tired and we were getting into the game more and more, putting more variation in our game, and creating more situations around the box. This did not exactly lead to clear cut chances, and Arnaud (Bodart) also produced a number of fine saves. They also had one more chance, but in the second half I thought we were the better team. Again lacking too many great chances, as we did not get enough players inside the box. We should be more accurate in that respect, and seize the chances we get. Then we finally scored that equaliser, and went on the lookout for our s econd. And that's just when we concede that 2-1, and that really should not have happened. There's no talking your way out of it. The fact of the matter is that we lose here, and that we are very disappointed. We were the better team with the best chances, but unfortunately we are now talking about what we lack more than about what we created. We should be scoring more, and those easy chances we keep conceding need to be eliminated.
Today we sure did create a number of opportunities, but only few chances when you think 'that should have been a goal'. There were a number of great saves, but also many shots from outside or around the box. We need to get that ball within the five meter area, and be more distinct in those situations. Apart from that, we also concede chances and goals too easily. It's not that we allow the opponent a lot of chances, but when they arrive, they often come with a goal. Those are the kinds of things we really need to keep working on", Club's T1 decided. (TM)
