Ruud Vormer: “Didn't see this coming”
A 1-2 defeat was not exactly the scenario Ruud Vormer was hoping for today. An up-to-par Club Brugge was unable to make the most of its chances in the second half.
“No, this wasn't what we expected. Our coach had warned us beforehand that Mouscron is not just your average team, and today's game goes to show. We were not playing up to standard in the first half. Always one step too late, hardly able to create chances, and when they took the lead, you just knew a rough night was lying ahead.”
As to the how and the why of that first half performance, Ruud Vormer was at a loss. “No, I can't see a solid explanation for those first 45 minutes. But in the second half we did put a lot of pressure, and when we scored the equaliser through Siebe (Schrijvers, edit), I really reckoned we would go over them. Unfortunately for us, it was the visitors who scored, and that was quite the blow. Football is an unpredictable game. You can take it from me that this Mouscron is a very strong outfit, but we really should always be winning this game, particularly when you take a look at the number of chances. We are now four points behind Genk, which is why the first week of the play-offs is so crucial.” (FDC)
