Ruud Vormer: “Looked for space after the break”
Ruud Vormer saw a better Club in the second half, eventually putting two past FC Salzburg.
“Not our best first half, but we made up for that in a better second. With a deserved win to boot. You could see the stress gripping our team after that goal. We had trouble finding solutions, and did some crazy stuff. We lost possession way too easily in the first half. They way they play, you just have to get the ball in the corners; we tried a central tack too often. With the necessary agression, and the fans in full support after the break, we played much better. We started looking for space a bit more, getting them into trouble. Furthermore, our substitutions were spot on. We can now enjoy this moment, and go for it full steam ahead on Sunday.”
Club has matters in its own hands as it takes on the second leg in Austria on Thursday. “A draw suffices, but we need to go for the win. It would be nice for us, but let's first focus on Sunday's game. We'll see after that. I really want to win another title, the league is what matters most to me. But if we can progress in Europe, I'd be happy to. I was thinking about their unbeaten run after the game. They had been on a winning streak, and hadn't suffered defeat 31 games on a spin. The minutest of details will decide the game there too. It's great to be winning here today; we should take this to the competition.” (KN)
