“The game knew an intense start, with lots of dueling, hampering play somewhat. Antwerp's master plan was to aim for a draw here and hope for a chance to force things on the break. They wanted to keep us from finding the space to play. It was important not to get stuck at 0-0 or to concede one on the break. Kicking off the Champions' Play-offs with three points, that's what I, and the entirety of Club Brugge are happy with. I reckoned that ball took a slight deflection, but all in all it doesn't matter all that much. It went in, and I'm happy it did. We did what we had to do, and know we can lean back and await the result in that other game. This is just the first step, no decisions have been made just yet.”
Three points for Club, so the heat is on now for Union. “We knew it would take a better start than last season. That was clear, but every game needs to be played first. We now need to steam ahead and retain our full focus. Just like today, not only with nice football, but also by winning those duels. When you're in front, the Play-off present a hazardous parcours. When you're behind, it's like you get a second shot at that title. It's an easier position mentally.” (KN)
